The Tamasha Works. Ranbir, Deepika’s Film Has Hit Weekend With 38 Cr

Ranbir Kapoor can finally put the Bombay Velvet nightmare behind him. His new film Tamasha, co-starring Deepika Padukone, has clocked over Rs 38 crores in its opening weekend at home. Not only is this an eminently respectable figure, it places the film on level with Tanu Weds Manu Returns in opening business. Tanu Weds Manu Returns, starring Kangana Ranaut, also made a about Rs 38 crores in its first weekend and went on to deliver 2015’s first 100 crores.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced the latest figures on Twitter:

Tamasha’s box office performance is somewhat of an acid test for Ranbir whose last three films – Besharam, Roy and Bombay Velvet – tanked miserably.

Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film revolves around the inner conflict faced by Ranbir’s character Ved after his girlfriend, played by Deepika, forces him to rethink his life and career choices. Deepika and Ranbir last collaborated on Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. Tamasha reunites Ranbir and Imtiaz after the acclaimed Rockstar and Deepika and Imtiaz after Love Aaj Kal.
